A.L.I.America was founded in 2008 by its current director, Christopher J. Moore (Khalil Abu Asmaa). He holds a BA in English with a Minor in Religious Studies from George Mason University (Fairfax, VA, 2001) and a Master’s in Liberal Arts from St. John’s College (Annapolis, MD, 2007). Curriculum
The Arabic language curriculum at A.L.I.America is based around the teaching of Classical Arabic (Fushah). Our approach is specifically catered to the non-Arabic speaking student and is one that is based on tried and tested methods of learning. The teaching experience is passionate, lively, and upbeat, and the learning environment is one of mutual respect, hard work, and sincere dedication. Arabic is a living and vibrant language and we at A.L.I.America believe that the experience of it should be alive and vibrant as well.
Our Commitment
Our goal at A.L.I.America is to enable students to become competent in their use of the Arabic language and to benefit from scholarly and religious works such as Qur’anic exegeses, hadith, law (fiqh), sirah, history, and classical and modern Arabic literature. The course of study combines both modern Arabic vocabulary as well as Islamic terminology as used in the Qur’an, prophetic traditions, and the scholarly works of great sages, both past and present. Over the course of the curriculum students will acquire an understanding of hundreds of Qur’anic verses, prophetic sayings, Arabic parables, cultural idioms, and poetry, as well as common expressions and phrases used in everyday settings.
